| When I sit down in front of my
computer at work, I dedicate the workday to
the Lord and ask Him to help me through difficult situations. A small inconspicuous
pencil cross at the top of my computer screen's frame, also helps: When I think
negative about someone, the Holy Spirit reminds me and I then look up at that
little cross and say "No, no!" to myself and have so been able to change MY attitude
so much that one person who was negative to me at work, is now friendly and
smiles when she says "Hi!". |

Can you write down a one-sentence definition of prayer? |
A friend called one evening after having installed new
hardware on his PC - when things did not work, he changed settings and now there
was just more confusion and still no working PC. I did not know how to help
other than to tell him to speak to the help desk of the service provider and ask
them to help. But things did sound very confused and I usually have to call in
the help of other brains to help with my PC - so I had little hope...
The next evening he called again. This time it was to tell me that he
followed my advice the previous evening AFTER PRAYING ABOUT IT. He called the
service provider who could not help, but he did ask about one setting on the
machine, and after making that correction, his machine was working!
Think about the circumstance: I don't usually think of computers as things
that there is a lot of concern about in heaven. Certainly not the major topic
of everyday prayer. I did not have any hope of my friend getting his machine to
work without major outside help. He needed that machine as a worktool and not a
toy - he is wheelchair-bound and telecommutes from home.
The message I got from the Holy Spirit about this: there is nothing wrong
about praying for technology and we should not forget this! |

Another pointer
also indirectly had to do with technology: To build this
website, I considered searching for other websites about prayer, but I was
reluctant. I knew there would be many such sites, each tooting his own horn with
his own agenda and I would not know the good from the bad.
Instead of God showing me the answers to these concerns of mine, He gave me,
as usual a far better answer: the first site on my list was for the Presidential
Prayer Team - a group that simply asks you to pray for whoever is President of
the US at the time.
So immediately I had another person to pray for and a cause to promote and
something to put on this prayer web page.
It allso served to reinforce my belief that it is better to pray for a specific
person than to throw out a blanket '...please be with all our leaders in
government...' |
